Masculine Card Making using Sale-a-bration Goodies!

masculine card making Stampin' Up 2013

Masculine Cards…cards for guys…I hear all the time that you ladies want MORE of this type of card.  I do have to chuckle, though, because recently there was a discussion on StampNation about making cards for guys and how it’s really hard to NOT add pearls, rhinestones, lace, flowers, ribbons…you know, GIRL things!

I chimed in and mentioned that Stampin’ Up has this new kit called, Dude, You’re Welcome, which I think is hilarious.  It’s a little card kit for guys to make cards…for who?   Girls, I suppose. (view the kit here)

But…all the supplies in this kit are total GUY.  KWIM?  Colors and papers that dudes would like.

So if Stampin’ Up makes a kit for GUYS with GUY stuff, why isn’t it ok for GIRLS to put GIRL stuff on cards for GUYS?

I’m going to ponder this for a while, and I want you to ponder it as well.  Then, let me know what you think and go onto my facebook page and let me know what you think about it!  Can we put girlie touches on cards for guys because the card is FROM a GIRL???

Plunk.  That’s me getting off my soapbox.  I’m ready to tell you about today’s card.  I saw a card just like this on my friend, Jenny Peterson’s Facebook Page and Georgia Giguere chimed in and said it was her card from the swap boards at Leadership.  (I didn’t see it, guess I was having too much fun doing other stuff…if you missed it, you can read about it and see my video here).

Thank you Georgia for making such an incredible card that I could CASE!  I love how this turned out.  I hope you do, too!

And no girlie touches.  Oh, wait.  I see a couple swirls and scallops and banners…does that count as girlie?

Gently Falling CAS Card Making

When I was brainstorming for my card yesterday, I kept striking out…I tried a few different things, but wasn’t coming up with something that hit a home run for one of my KISS Cards.  So a bunch of pieces of cardstock and scraps laid on my table while I created THIS.

Once I was done with the video, I went back to the scraps and this is what I came up with:

Not too shabby, I think!  My favorite part of this card is how the Happy Birthday is stamped on the background paper and only parts of it can be seen, but you know what it says.

Stampin’ Up Supplies:

  • Curly Cute Stamp Set, Gently Falling Stamp Set
  • Cardstock:  Soft Suede, Pool Party
  • Ink:  Soft Suede, Pool Party, More Mustard
  • Accessoires:  Chevron Embossing Folder, Antique Brads, Sponges, 2-1/2″ Circle Punch, 1-3/8″ Circle Punch, Linen Thread

Next week I’ll be sharing some Christmas cards…stay tuned!

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!  Ours is full of dancing, swimming, basketball, birthday parties and hopefully some crafting with the kids.

KISS – Simple Cards to Make – Masculine Card Making

I had a tiny bit of trouble getting going on this card…you can see in the video pieces of the first card I was working on.  I ended up scrappin’ the first card and coming up with the cards you see here, which I’m pretty happy with!

After I made these cards, I went back to the first card and finished it.  I ended up liking what I came up with, so check back, I will share it once I get it photographed and uploaded.

Today’s video (if you are viewing in a feed, be sure to click through to my blog) shows you ONE layout which is simple to mass produce.  I also wanted to show you different options for the same design, so I embellished them differently and used different papers and textures for the circles.  Basically, you’ve got four cards in one video here.  View to see all the tricks of the trade and the brand new paper cutter by Stampin’ Up in action!

Mass Producing Masculine Card Making Video Tutorial

I’m going to start out today’s post by saying WOW.  Again.  You all seemed to really enjoy the Mass Producing Birthday Cards Video Tutorial from Monday!  Yes?

One thing I heard was that  it was a great reminder that we don’t have to continually out-do ourselves and make magnificent pieces of artwork that take hours every time we sit down to the stamp table.

There is a time and a place for magnificent pieces of artwork, don’t get me wrong!  It’s just nice to remember, that even simple cards ARE pieces of art and brighten someone’s day just as much.

I took Alana to the doctor this morning (she’s had wheezing and breathing issues on and off since she was a baby…a breathing treatment and she was good to go…home from the doctor, mac n cheese for lunch and straight to school with her! I digress.) and I was thinking,

"What if I made this a weekly feature and archived them all together in one category on my blog for future easy reference?"

What do you all think?  Would that be useful to you?

If yes, leave me a comment and let me know what you think I should call it!

With that, on to todays card and video:

Mass Producing Masculine Cards Video Tutorial!

I was asked by a few stampers to take one layout (or sketch) and show a few different ways to embellish it.  Ok!  This layout is the same as Monday’s but it looks quite different, doesn’t it?  It’s also the same layout as the card from my newsletter yesterday.

If you are not subscribed to my newsletter, you’ll want to get on it!  SUBSCRIBE HERE and you will get the videos in the My Friend Video Series which kicks off with a video on how to tie a flat bow.  Who doesn’t need to know how to do that!?

Measurements:

  • Base:  4-1/4 x 11
  • Layer:  4 x 5-1/4
  • DSP: 4 x 4, then cut off 3/4" or so…a little more, a little less, it doesn’t matter!
