Essentials by Ellen Spring Blog Hop – Mongo Magnolia!

Welcome to the Spring 2015 Essentials by Ellen Release Hop! I’m honored to be working with Ellen Hutson and Julie Ebersole on their newest release!

I also get to give this new stamp set, called Mondo Magnolia (and whaddaya know!? I’m using it in today’s projects!) to a lucky blog reader.

Please leave a comment to enter my giveaway!

Mondo Magnolia Distress Markers

Watercoloring Flowers with Distress Markers

I spent a couple hours (nope!  This girl’s not a natural watercolorist!) working on the best and easiest way to watercolor the Mondo Magnolia stamp set.  This ended up being SO DARNED EASY, I knew I had to make a quick video showing you how!

Mondo Magnolia Distress Markers 2

I added some Vintage Photo, Mustard Seed and Abandoned Coral to the center, cut it out with the Mondo Magnolia Dies, added some Stickles and popped it up in the center.

A simple white embossed sentiment on a black strip of cardstock with some sequins finished this card off.

Mondo Magnolia Distress Background

While I was playing and watercoloring, I made this flower and cut it out.  I sponged my card base with Vintage Photo Distress Ink, stamped Bokeh Dots in Gold Delicata Ink and splattered the background with some water.

I added the flower to the card base and added the “Be You tiful” die cut which is covered in Stickles as well.

Mondo Magnolia Distress Background 2_edited-1

The fun begins in the CLASSroom and there is also a Grand Giveaway! To enter, be sure to leave a comment there, and at every stop along the hop by May 5th! Winners will be announced May 8th.

Happy hoppin’!
The CLASSroom  – start here!

Catherine Pooler – you are here!
Miriam Prantner  – next stop on the hop!

Once I got started with this set, I couldn’t stop!  Here’s another watercolored card I made.  This time I watercolored the background, cut out the flower and stamped it on the card base.  I have a video tutorial on how to do this super quickly and easily – coming soon!

Hi Catherine!! I knew this set was going to be versatile and Beautiful as you have shown in your 3 Lovely cards! They are all so unique and I have to say, I never thought of stamping a flower and leaving it blank and letting the background make it shine, that card really is stunning too! I always feel, I have to fill in the blank spaces. Thanks so much for doing a video. Isn’t it interesting the things that hold us back from many things, fear of not doing it right, fear of trying and failing, etc.. I don’t know a ding dang thing about “art”, even though I see art in everything. But I realized as I’m working on my Mother’s Day greeting card gifts, that I Do know what I like and don’t like. So, it’s really just a matter of experimenting and playing. And knowing the tips and tricks is most of the battle.

Your magnolia is colored beautifully. Since I’m just now getting to do the blog hop, I saw how you used your MISTI to die cut the flower out of the patterned paper as well. This is a fabulous idea. I love the layering it adds and can’t wait to try it myself!

I can think of so many things to do with this stamp. I loved this video. I’m always looking for new ideas. My 75 yr old mother, my sister and I make approximately 40 cards a month for my churches ABW card ministry. I had only seen Stampin Up products until about 2 months ago when I stumbbled upon Catherine Pooler on youtube. I’ve watched every video I could get my hads on ever since. I didn’t know there were so many product opportunities out there, our AC Moore selection is not always the greatest. Thanks Catherine for opening this West Virginia ladies eyes to a bigger world of creating.

Wow, that is the first time I have seen the MISTI and, of course, it looks like a necessary tool. I like the card with the patterned paper best…gives the eye more to process! And, what a beautiful magnolia.
