Positive Post it notes

I really believe that at different times in my life, things have lined up in a certain way to teach me something.  I spoke about that a bit in yesterday's video.

When I was putting together that video and filming the intro and outro, I did not have a plan to tell the story that I did, but it just came pouring out of me.

What I didn't tell you about the woman I met at the stamping event who made a difference for ME is what happened before I met her.   3 weeks before, we lost a 20 year old family member in an automobile accident.  This smart, strong woman was making a difference in the world at 20.

That is what spurred on the conversation between Randall and I about making a difference.

During that time in my life, I was working very hard on my business and was not participating much in my local community.   That is where the feelings of “not making a difference” came from.  I felt like I wasn't making a difference in my community.

In the video, I said that I was “ok” with that.

I wasn't really ok with that, but at that stage in my life…building a business, nurturing my marriage, raising three girls, and TRYING to maintain friendships…I did not see one single way that I could possible fit anything more in that MIGHT make a difference, so I was ok with it at the moment.

I truly had no idea that I was making a difference for anyone, and when I realized that the difference I was making was so much bigger than I could have imagined or planned, well…I just can't tell you how much that has enriched my life and kept me moving in the direction in which I'm going now.

I thought about that this morning when I saw this about Positive Post-it Day.

The Mayor of Airdrie said “Positive begets Positive” and that is one mantra that Randall and I live by.  We find that it is one thing that makes our marriage successful.

I can apply this to my business as well.

I am overwhelmed, humbled, and completely overjoyed every day by those of you that take a moment of your day to stop in to my blog, youtube channel, facebook page to say hello and offer me words of encouragement.

If it weren't for you, I don't think I'd be doing this any longer.  Occasionally, I talk about the negative emails and occasional comments I get and when I tell someone about it, it's shocking to them.

I'm a gal with a camera and some stamps and I'm having fun sharing this hobby  and yep, I get rude emails from time to time.  It would shock you some of the things that have been said to me.  Luckily, those emails are few and far between- it's not like they come in every day….but they come and every one of them makes my breath catch in my throat for a second.

So when you come here and leave me a positive comment, it enriches my life and encourages me to make more videos, which in turns makes other people happy.  So you are a part of this whole danged thing!  Isn't that amazing!??

THANK YOU for being here, for supporting me and showing up.

YOU make a difference for ME.  I bound out of bed every morning to get to work because I absolutely LOVE what I do.  And if it weren't for YOU – yes, YOU!!!!!  I wouldn't be doing what I love.  YOU absolutely make a difference in my life and the life of my family.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for touching me so that I can touch others.

I am encouraged and inspired to make a difference.  One person, one card, one video at a time.  How about you?

And be sure to check out this heart warming story and share it with those that are important to you.

hugs, CP

You are so sweet to say that. I guess that what makes your site work, we all make a difference in each other lives. . .

  • Gayle Bates October 14, 2014, 3:55 pm

love your videos. They are easy to follow and full of great ideas. Just started scrapbooking about a year ago. Make mostly cards but I’m so addicted. Thank you for all that you do to inspire us.

  • Linda Wilkinson October 14, 2014, 4:07 pm

Catherine I am sorry that you do not realize how much of a difference that you have made in others lives! Someday I would love to really tell you what you did for me and how you have help me through sometimes. Yes you make a big difference in our lives and we love you more than you will possibly know♥

Thank you for making me laugh and smile when I really had a hard time mwah♥

  • Sherry in MI October 14, 2014, 4:48 pm

Hi Catherine, You DO make a difference. You inspire me to try new stamping techniques, new color combos and new ways to use my stamps. I truly enjoy your videos…I learn something and have fun at the same time. I, too, am trying to make a difference in someone’s life. My cousin has recently had breast cancer surgery and will be in follow-up treatment for almost a year. Fortunately, she is doing very well. My goal (and I hope I make it) is to send her a “cheer up” card every week for all the time that she is in treatment. I hope to see her at Thanksgiving and tell her how brave and strong she has been. So, you DO make a difference in people’s lives. Don’t ever think that you don’t!

  • Connie Brooks October 14, 2014, 5:58 pm

Im so sorry Catherine…reading about some rude comments you have gotten in the past. Its a shame. We women, gals or girls are suspossed to stick together, support one another in all aspects of our lives. Not beat each other up. Shame on them! They must be sad people to do that…very low self esteem I suspect. You however, keep doing whatmyour doing, I and many others love you for doing it…for us. Thank you.

  • Heather North October 14, 2014, 7:58 pm

Catherine, you do make a positive difference in the world. You have touched more people than you know, just by being you and having the guts to share what you do with the world. You empower women in so many ways, and I am blessed to call you a friend. You have even worked your tail off to create an online community so others can share with each other. Do you know how HUGE that is? I remember your struggles when your family member passed away suddenly. You may feel sometimes like you aren’t making a difference in the lives in your own community, but there are real people on the other side of your computer screen inviting you into their homes daily. I imagine some of them are right there in Raleigh, NC. We never truly know the impact we have on others, but rest assured, yours has been a positive one on more people than you can fathom. You bring hope and inspiration into my life daily.

I just love the post-it day story! That young girl fought back in such a wonderful, powerful way! Thanks for sharing that with us!!

  • Maureen Chandler October 14, 2014, 10:18 pm

Thank you so much for your wonderful videos and the bits you share about yourself and your life! I have been stamping for a long time and am always ready to learn something new and fun! So, continue to be your wonderful self and hopefully the crabby people out there will stop sending negative e-mails!!! Hugs! XOXO

  • Merrily Schulz October 14, 2014, 11:01 pm

I love your post and made me get out and send some cards to people that I wouldn’t usually remember. Thank you!!!!

  • Theresa October 14, 2014, 11:09 pm

Catherine, I have just recently found your site and I am absolutely enthralled by your techniques. I get so excited when a new one posts. Over the past few months my creative spark has been nonexistent and your videos have definitely perked me up and I am starting to try new things and develop layouts for new ideas. Thank you for putting yourself out there for us.

  • Pamela October 14, 2014, 11:39 pm

Catherine…you do help me to create wonderful cards. I wish I got as much accomplished as you do. I don’t know how you do all that you do knowing that just being a wife and mother to your children takes up so much of your time. I sincerely appreciate all that you do for your card making fans and look forward to receiving your emails full of inspiration!! xxooxx

  • Sharon Jones October 14, 2014, 11:55 pm

You have been the one to inspire me to go on and help others by our craft. The recipients that receive these and the friendship that we, as crafters, have with each other has kept me going strong. I couldn’t ask for better friends than you and the wonderful sistahs at SN. I am so very happy to have you in my life and want you to know that you DO make a difference. You and the team and other members have helped me to go on with my life and push forward in light of all the darkness I’ve been through, and for that, I thank our wonderful Lord God for. God blessed you, Catherine, and continues to bless you and every one of us. I can see it daily.
Crafty hugs to you and all our Sistahs!
    Sharon Jones

Dear Catherine, you are doing great! You have a huge fan base of people who love you, what you do, how you do it, and how you feel about it! I started making cards for my family and friends, my kids’ teachers and my colleagues because of you. Take heart and stay positive, enthusiastic and true to yourself as always! Hugs, Boryana, Bulgaria

  • Jeanne October 15, 2014, 9:52 am

Catherine, Big Hugs to you !!!! Thank you for sharing this story…..Since I’m a mom too, of 2 teenagers, I’m very aware of the reality of bullying, sadly. Between your video and the Post-it video ,I was in tears but also so inspired. I have wanted to blog about my stamping obsession for awhile but I’m worried about lots of things like negative comments, etc. I heard you in your video and blog to go for it and make a difference ~ Thanks for encouraging me !!
You are amazing and you motivate me by ALL that you do. I don’t know how you do it .

    Thanks so much!

  • Lauren October 15, 2014, 1:32 pm

I have been drawn to you for years. Not having money to be part of your team, I watch from the outside.
This day was like any other, except I watched the post-it note episode and the cancer card making previous.
I will be forever loyal and an admirer. Thank you for making my sad lonely day loving and special.

  • Lisa K October 15, 2014, 1:37 pm

Yes, life can get in the way and make a person feel like they are not making a difference to anyone. YOU MAKE A DIFFERENCE! I am thankful for your videos, your book, sharing your life through your blog, videos, Stamp Nation. I make cards and cards and sometimes get to share them. Thanks for being inspiring and helping us make better cards to share with people in our lives.

  • Camille October 15, 2014, 1:51 pm

Just wanted to say that YOU have made a big difference in my life. Giving me inspiration with all the ideas, your bubbly personality and your honesty. I’m so enjoying my business, though as you said too overwhelmed at times, but still loving the craft and glad to have found Stamp Nation and be a community of gals who share the same interest. We all love your videos! Keep up the good work!

#1 Anyone making rude comments must have some serious problems that have nothing to do with you. Please, please, please just ignore them! And remember everyone that loves you and supports what you do.

#2 Raising children who are good people makes a huge difference in this world. Sometimes our kids can be difficult

  • CT October 15, 2014, 3:27 pm

I opened my email this morning and received an email from a friend I’d sent a birthday card to last month. I never heard from her. This morning she was dusting her desk and found the card and it registered she had never mentioned it to me. Her comment: “I was cleaning off my desk and found it and enjoyed it once again!!” Just that little comment made my day! She received joy from the card twice! Can’t beat that! Our cards, your cards and mine, are an intrinsic part of happiness in this world. Keep on keeping on!! It’s fun to have coffee with you through the screen! ;)

  • Pat Kinkaid October 15, 2014, 3:42 pm

Thank you for doing what you do. You make more of a difference than you will ever realize… you inspire a card maker … who then makes a card for a friend or loved one,.. who is then encouraged and made happy… so their day goes better and they are kinder to everyone they meet … and on… and on… and on. Like pebbles in a pond.

  • Christine DeCarlo October 15, 2014, 3:47 pm

I love watching your videos and seeing new techniques that I may have never known about if I didn’t watch you. You inspire me to create, be thankful and take each day to try something new. Even when I am down I watch your videos to cheer me up!!!
    Thank you for being You!

  • Peggy Pride October 15, 2014, 4:08 pm

Catherine, you make a great difference in our lives! When I go to my local craft store, your name is the one I hear most often when people are asking the staff, “Do you have this product? I saw it on the web today—Catherine Pooler made a beautiful card using it”.
Stay well and know you and your endeavors are part of my universe and I love it!

  • Shelley Scales October 15, 2014, 4:18 pm

    Dear Catherine,

My dear, you inspire me all the time, especially when you have a goof up. I have difficulties on a regular basis, and at times can make a real mess of things. When this happens, I just take a deep breath, and say to myself, it’s just paper………….and knowing that you have the occasional day like me makes me feel better.

I’m sorry for your loss. I did read that you had explained most of what you are going through in a video, but didn’t see it. It is never easy losing someone, especially when they are so young. It is good that she was making a difference in the world. I have often thought that I am lacking in making a difference, but I think we all do in small ways, and don’t realize it…….at least I hope so. Hugs to you Shelley Scales

  • Linda Duensing October 15, 2014, 4:34 pm

Airdrie? As in AB? I’m in No California but we drive through Airdrie a couple times a year because our daughter married a Canadian Amanda lives east of Edmonton. I’ll wave next time and send you a big hug! You’re a very creative and sharing woman……carry on! Positive thinking and behavior always makes a difference!

  • Jackie Sterling October 15, 2014, 6:01 pm

You are a blessing to me. I am completely self taught with the help of your videos and instructions. Because of your help, I have been able to share beautiful cards with members of my church and community who needed a word of encouragement. Thank you so much.

  • Valerie Murphy October 15, 2014, 6:03 pm

    Hey Chickie!
Just wanted you to know that after ‘stumbling’ onto one of your youtube videos last winter, I was inspired. I don’t have a lot of time for paper crafting, but I’ve made it more of a priority since finding you!. When I need a pick me up, or am in need of a creative boost you’re the one I turn to … sending you a Heartfelt Thank You … from a Nova Scotia fan!

  • Dee DiGiambattista October 15, 2014, 6:32 pm

Thank YOU, I look forward to all of your cards and tutorials. You don’t know what a difference you make in OUR lives !!!!!

  • Char M October 15, 2014, 6:58 pm

I throughly enjoy your videos. You make cardmaking so easy.

  • Lynne Ingram October 15, 2014, 8:18 pm

I, too, am shocked that you would get such emails. You do so much for our craft that it is impossible for me to believe it. THANK YOU for all you do for us and all the things you teach us.

  • Anna Kluytmans October 15, 2014, 8:48 pm

Hi Catherine, I love your video’s they are clear and simple to follow, always with a cheery smile, I love coming here each day to see your next creation. Wipe away the negatives and absorb the Positives and keep enjoying what you do.
    Regards Anna.

  • Geri October 15, 2014, 8:49 pm

Occasionally we experience negativity in life. We MUST remember “No one can make us feel inferior without our consent”. I look forward to your emails, ideas and the amount of enthusiasm you show in your work. You “make my day”.

  • Nanette October 15, 2014, 11:32 pm

I loved your story at the end of your video yesterday. It actually is pretty close to what I’ve been doing the last year and a half. Because of medical issues and having 3 major surgeries in 11 months my sleeping habits are basically gone. When I’m trying g to get to sleep and can’t I either grab the nook if iPhone and I watch your card making videos. First they inspires me for new projects but more it takes my mind off of stressing that I can’t sleep and helps me relax so that I can. I’m working my way backward and hope to see them all and maybe some during the day. Anyone that can help during those dark hours of the night when your mind us running out of control is truy blessed they just don’t always know it. Your just don’t realize what a blessing you are. Thanks for being with on those long nights.

  • Lorraine October 16, 2014, 3:56 am

I just wanted to comment that I do appreciate your emails and videos. They inspire me to do better work. Thanks for all that you do.

  • Dale Rose October 16, 2014, 6:27 am

Teachers rarely know the impact they have on the lives of their students. It is the rare student who comes back to tell you they appreciate what you have given them. I like to think of teaching as throwing a stone into a pond. You will never know where the waves end up, but they will go on and on. You just have to trust that you gave your best and that is enough. Your waves are going everywhere.

  • Marie Brooks October 16, 2014, 8:29 am

Keep up the great work Catherine. Your videos have inspired me to be more creative and to share with others. Continue to be happy and positive and know that you do make a difference.

  • Cindie McDuffee October 16, 2014, 11:20 am

Yes, I think it’s odd that when you are trying to do good in the world, that some people hear your message differently than how you said it. We are all subject to that…. And no matter how much good you do, there will be, as the kids say, “haters”. Your videos and cards are inspirational on several levels, please don’t let the few detractors sadden you! Those people do not understand the impact of their words, and probably don’t even try to do a bit of good for themselves or others.
Enjoy the beauty that is today, Catherine. You deserve it!

  • Sharon M October 16, 2014, 11:38 am

I can’t find anything on your new website. I have been trying to follow your 12 Weeks of Christmas but I have only found one card and the email newsletter only sends me to your last project not the Christmas card. I can find pictures of it but no videos. UGH!

  • Susan scherig October 16, 2014, 12:18 pm

Love, love, love all your articles and your vibrant personality. Keep posting and posting. Thank you

  • Rachel October 16, 2014, 2:30 pm

I have always wanted to say thank you for all your effort you put into your videos and facebook page. I found your videos by accidents on youtube a few years back. I was in the process of giving up on being creative and selling off all my stamps. Your care free ways changed my mind. We all need to be creative to relieve the stress of everyday life. Your a wonderful cheerful person.

  • Angela Blackwood October 16, 2014, 5:44 pm

Unfortunately, there will always be negative people in the world… Knowing that you are genuine, enthusiastic and have your heart in the right place is all you need to keep that negativity at bay. Keep doing what you are doing, you have made a difference in the lives of many, I am sure!

  • Deana Johansen October 17, 2014, 2:42 am

Sweet Catherine, You are a blessing and have a gift for how you share your enthusiasm and tutorials so that they feel “do-able”. You inspire countless crafters to use what they have and that the simple can be elegant. Thank you!! Your cheerfulness is a good medicine for the hearts of many. Keep on touching our lives and thank you, again!

  • Sharon Baggs October 17, 2014, 12:37 pm

What a wonderful way to be supportive and creative at the same time! I always love your new videos and ideas! I do try to be helpful and supportive to the people in my community at all times but especially when they are going thru a difficult time and need that extra boost – knowing that someone cares! Thank you for being inspiring!

  • Deborah October 17, 2014, 3:31 pm

Oh, Catherine. I’m sorry ‘people’ feel it’s okay to be rude. I’ve been watching your videos for about 3 yrs now and thoroughly enjoy them, even the bloopers when you laugh about it! We all make a difference everyday even if we do not see the end result immediately.
Keep it going girlfriend, you are special…

  • Sue Ivings October 18, 2014, 6:02 am

I love watching your videos and tutorials, they give great inspiration (and ideas for my paper crafting hobby). I check in regularly to see what you have been up to ;) and your “funny” moments always make me giggle. Thanks Catherine, you are a gem x

  • Brenda in IN October 18, 2014, 10:08 am

Catherine, I hate it that some people have nothing better to do than make ugly comments. What you have to remember is that is their problem, not yours. You make our lives better by sharing what you do and giving us tips and how to’s. Everyone has doubts and when you put your life out there anyone can and will comment. As you realize there are so many more encouraging comments you will know those ugly ones don’t matter. They come from some who probably don’t even stamp, they are just cruising through blogs. Keep doing what you are doing and delete those who don’t matter.

  • Elise Mungovan October 18, 2014, 10:17 am

I am always so happy to see your posts, Catherine. This one was especially inspiring and that is what we see in you. Forget the negative, there are always those people who have to spew negativity. The important thing is you are making a difference in all our lives and I thank you for that.

  • Dayna October 18, 2014, 1:22 pm

Oh Catherine! don’t let the naysayers dampen your spirit – just ignore them! i *love* your videos and learn so much from you in a really happy and fun way. Mahalo from Hawaii.

  • Pamela October 18, 2014, 5:15 pm

    Hi Catherine
Yes you do make a difference, if people make offensive comments then they do not have to read your blog, if they do not like what you do then they do not need to watch, read or learn. Everyone has their own way of working, enjoying what they they do and wanting to pass that to everyone, I admit that not all You Tube videos are are particularly good but I would not dream of saying so, it is hurtful and demeaning to that person who is only trying to do something nice. So carry on with your videos, have fun in your craft and chat away. Life is too short so enjoy and make a difference. Pamela from the UK.

  • Avril Plummer October 19, 2014, 8:54 pm

Well Catherine you make me smile when your email arrives in my inbox.
Forget all the negative comments, here in New Zealand we have what we call the Tall Poppy syndrone, some people just don’t like seeing other people suceed and of course want to cut them down to size.I call it Jealousy. Just carry on being you and do what you do best.

  • Debbie Bonczek October 20, 2014, 10:59 pm

It’s funny that I recall when that 20-year old in your life had passed from hearing you post about it on StampNation, and something like that shakes you to the core and makes you stop and evaluate yourself. Things happen for a reason. That chance meeting with that awesome woman who stopped to tell you what you needed to hear was likely not just chance! So glad it happened at a moment when it could have the most impact. You truly make a difference, more than you could know on your own.

  • beth swisher October 20, 2014, 11:20 pm

You inspire me so much. I dont get to do much scrapbooking or card making as i would like to. My mother just died after three months in and out of the hospital and rehab. The way I destressed was to watch some of your videos. Please know you are very special and valuable to many of us.

  • Bobby October 25, 2014, 9:44 am

Your story just goes to show that you never know when you are impacting other people’s lives. Like the song says “Accentuate the positive, eliminate the negative.” Do what you love and it will show through.

  • joan nicola October 29, 2014, 7:56 pm
