Witchy Poo, Stencils and Embedded Mica Embossing Paste Technique – video tutorial

Stencils and Embedded Mica Embossing

Things be gettin’ a bit witchy ’round these parts!

A few weeks ago Ellen Hutson asked me to be a guest artist in her CLASSroom!  Thrilled is an understatement, my friends.  I don’t know if there is much I wouldn’t do for Miss Ellen!

Super fast shipping, impeccable customer service, perfectly packaged orders – well, all this comes second to what an incredible lady Ellen is.  She is a model business woman with integrity and a family-first attitude.   You can check out the Ellen Hutson store here.

I had so much fun that I filmed THREE videos using the very same supplies – the super cute Witchy Poo stamp set by Julie Nutting, the Art Ingredients by Prima, Patterned Paper and stenciling with the Gold Delicata ink pad – one for Ellen, one here and one for StampNation.

It’s always so much fun to see how many different looks you can get with the same products and techniques.

So let’s take a look at this card!  View the video below…

I used what I’m calling the Embedded Mica Embossing Paste Background technique on her dress.  For this technique, all you need to do is adhere Mica Flakes to your card stock, then spread the Translucent Embossing Paste over the top of it.  I used a pretty thick coating, so it took an hour or two to dry.  That’s it!

ehcppeek See exactly how to do this on my post on Ellen’s website here.

This technique used on the dress adds such fun to this card!  The details of the dress got a bit lost, but I still think it’s fun.  A smidge of a gold embossed doily added a fun detail to the bottom of her dress.

Stamping the image on patterned paper, then cutting it out and paper piecing it onto this sweet little witch is a really fun way to use great patterns and have fun!

The Mica Flakes did double duty by creating a little “backdrop” for the wooden stars.

So, how would you like to play with these goodies yourself?  Ellen Hutson is so generous and is offering up a prize pack.

    Really cute card :)

  • Jean Bullock September 15, 2014, 8:11 pm

Cool video. What a great idea to cut out the sentiment and use the frame that way. As I was watching the video, I started thinking how fun it would be to make the “witch” into a paper doll with different outfits to include with the card. Would be fun for the little ones. Well done. I subscribed by the way.

Very cute card, and I am not even a Halloween person. Your newsletter sign up was not working, from my end, at least.

The “surgery” you did on the stamp is a brilliant idea. Why haven’t I thought of that? I like all of the additional elements you use on your cards. I find myself afraid to keep adding layers and embellishments, yet that is what usually draws me to other peoples cards. I need to be braver I guess. From now on I will follow your lead.

What cool products! Really enjoy your videos. CUTE, CUTE witch set. Ellen is out by me, and just an awesome site for so many products. Thank you so much for your inspiration.
