Dazzling Divas Challenge

Welcome to the Dazzling Divas Challenge #11 – Watercolor!

Be sure to hop over to the challenge blog  to see how the DT was inspired and enter the challenge yourself.

Dazzling Divas Challenge

I have to be honest with you, friends, this challenge had me flailing about in my stamp room for far too long.  I hope you have better luck!  It may be because of my procrastination, but usually that doesn’t stop me.

I did some experimentation with silver embossed flowers – first I tried coloring them with Distress Stains.  um, yeah….  NO!

Distress Stains just bead up on the metal (if you already knew this, you are a couple steps ahead of me, then!).  I wiped the stain off and tried something else.

Then, I colored the embossed flowers with Copic Markers (I’m a bit obsessed with them right now)  and sprayed them with blending solution.

Well, that experiment failed, too.  Sisters!  This was an epic mess!

So I decided to go simple.  I cut a 4-3/4″ x 2″ strip of metal and cut it with the Angled Tag Topper Punch by Stampin’ Up, then tied some Baker’s Twine through it.  I adhered it to the textured cardstock layer with dimensionals.

The “hello” was cut from a Simon Says die and colored with Copic Markers (told ya I was obsessed!) in this really cool ombre look.  That video is comin’ atcha next week.

A few sequins from Pretty Pink Posh topped it off.

Now that I’m looking at this, I think I should have stamped the flowers on the tag and embossed them with silver.  I think that would have added a great touch.

If you don’t have Copic Markers, no worries!  Try colored cardstock, patterened paper or used any other coloring medium you like to work with.  And make sure you hit all the edges of the cut out – see I have a few white spots left!  Whoopsie!

Supplies (all Stampin’ UP unless otherwise noted):

  • What?  No stamps?  wow!
  • Cardstock:  Pink Pirouette, Spectrum Noir White
  • Copic Markers RV02, 04, 06, 08
  • Accessories:  Angled Tag Topper Punch, Baker’s Twine, Hello Die (Simon Says), Sequins (Pretty Pink Posh), Embossing Folder (Darice)

Add a Little Dazzle Store:  any metal color – just turn it over!  It’s silver on the back!

SN sneak peek

If you follow me on Facebook, you’ve seen this sneak peek…this video tutorial plus the same card with different colors, different stamps and a slight tweak on the design…well, that is coming to StampNation next week!  I had more fun making this card than I’ve had in a while!

Love that ombre pink hello! I have this die but haven’t used it yet. You have inspired me to get it out and play! Can’t wait to see the card for SN!

    Catherine,

Thanks for your beautiful card. I struggled just as much as you did so I had my work cut out for me, too. I am going to give it another try tomorrow and see if I can improve.

Thanks for all your hard work and for being on the team. Can’t wait to see more of your beautiful creations.

Beautiful card Catherine. I especially love the ombre hello.

Catherine, it may have been a struggle but the end result is fantastic! Love that pretty pinkness! You know what is funny? I watercolored my “hello” die cut for this challenge too. When I went to write up the blog post I realized I had not used any stamps. I checked the card 3 times wondering if I missed something. ha-ha. What? No Stamps? I used the positive and negative to make 2 cards and neither of them had a stamp.
